What an amazing little grocery store in Port Angeles. It's adorable and overloaded with wonderful, fresh, local, organic produce! Then, it has food that's prepared like vegan gluten-free pizza you can bake at home. It also has a cafe to order coffee and juices and smoothies and food, with seating inside.
There's an area for gift items like clothing and accessories. There's coffee. There's a wall of herbs for whatever you might need. There's vegan cheeses and non-dairy products. There are snacks and bulk bins galore. There are alcoholic beverage options, as well as non-alcoholic things like water and natural soda pop.
This place was adorable, and I just wish I was here for longer to buy more of the produce and see how good it all tasted. Organic dragon fruit - so cool! Also, things like heirloom tomatoes, organic nectarines, beautiful leafy greens, etc., looked so delicious and fresh, how could you not eat your veggies when shopping here?
There were a lot of sales on items like chocolate, produce, snacks, etc. It was cool. Loved this store! -

(I've updated my rating to a 3 from a 2 because an employee there, Chris, genuinely tries to listen to requests, and can fix things. The organic sunflower seeds are now in stock, because of him)
This is a decent healthy grocery store for a small city. If this store was in Seattle, or even Victoria, it would very deservedly receive 1 Star.
That said, if this store was not in port angeles, the closest healthy place to shop would be sunny farms in Sequim, or the port Townsend food coop, which is by FAR the best place to shop for healthy goods in the Olympic peninsula. So country Aire does serve a valuable purpose in PA.
There are quite a few problems with the store, like the obvious lack of very obtainable items like organic sunflower seeds as opposed to the regular. If you want this important health item, you must go to Port Townsend. Prices are also a bit overdone, as even the prices at the coop in port Townsend, a more affluent town, are cheaper. (As explained about, store employee Chris got organic sunflower seeds. I raised my rating 2 to 3)
But the biggest issue with this store is the food selection of the deli case, and the hours. I hate to keep bringing up the coop in port Townsend, but it would be unfair to bring up the PCC in Seattle. Basically, if the food coop in dinky port Townsend can do it, Country Aire can. And the food selection is not horrible, but at best it's a C+. I'd like the owners of country Aire to go to the PT food coop to see what is possible in a deli case.
Additionally, how in gods name can the deli close at FIVE PM? People getting off from working for an easy meal from the selfie case? You're out of luck. This is entirely inexcusable. And frankly, bizarre.
I will change the star rating and review if some of these things are fixed. It's necessary. Lastly, it always sucks leaving a tough review. I want to say I appreciate and like country Aire. The owners moved to this big store, and it's nice. But it can be SO much better. -

I'm visiting Port Angeles from Sacramento this weekend and as a vegan was excited to see that they had a local natural foods store in town. When I pulled up to the store on a Saturday morning, I noticed right away that its actually a quite large store as well.
They do have a vegan cooler section which has the same standard vegan brands that I can find back in Sacramento. That was cool to see, but when I'm traveling I'm most interested in what vegan prepared items are available to-go or made to order.
They had breakfast sandwiches and burritos available both to-go and made to order but the ingredients they offered were not vegan friendly. For example, the burrito came standard with two eggs and no tofu scramble was available. Avocado would cost $1 extra. When I told a staff member I was vegan, I was offered double potatoes in place of eggs. Unfortunately, that's like asking would you like double carbs in place of 1 protein and 1 carb? There needs to be a vegan protein (tofu, tempeh, seitan, or beans) in place of the animal protein (eggs).
I convinced them to let me substitute the eggs for avocado and not charge me, but they said it would be a one time exception. In order to get tofu on my burrito, I bought these two tofu sticks from the Vegan Cooler and asked for them to be added to my burrito.
My vegan breakfast burrito turned out to be delicious, I just wish I didn't have to Frankenstein it together. I hope they will start carrying tofu scramble as a vegan substitute for eggs in the future. -

If I can sum up this place in one word would be "Incredible" reason why I was on way to Hurricane Ridge when I stumble up on this little Grocery store. I ordered sandwich and smoothies. Then went to pharmacy with questions and all of them were answered. If I ever come back to his part of world, I'll be happy to stop by

We enjoyed a wonderful and inexpensive dinner. The French dip sandwich was delicious, with Brie cheese as a surprisingly good feature. The farmers market soup was fresh made in store and also delicious.
Note that the deli closes at 6pm. We were lucky to arrive at 5:55pm.
